The Battle Belongs to the LORD. There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but the Battle Belongs to the LORD. Proverbs 21:30-31

10 Questions With Scott Stringer

10 Questions With Scott Stringer at george magazine

Scott Stringer, a former New York City comptroller, believes he has the experience and ideas to become the city’s next mayor. What he needs is the votes.

He finished fifth in the New York City mayoral primary four years ago. This year, he has trailed the front-runners, former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani, in the polls, and is not a part of a left-leaning alliance of candidates.

He has tried to win over voters by centering his campaign on improving life for families and opposing President Trump.

Ahead of the June 24 primary, the leading Democrats in the race visited The New York Times for interviews. We are publishing excerpts from those interviews, and this is the seventh in the series; our conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

We asked Mr. Stringer, 65, questions about 10 themes, with the occasional follow-up, touching on his shift in thinking on policing and how he now prefers a scooped bagel.

We’ve written previously about his plan to extend the school day, his fund-raising in the Flushing neighborhood in Queens, and the sexual misconduct allegations by two women that derailed his 2021 campaign.
