President Donald Trump has named presidential counselor Alina Habba as interim U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, elevating one of his closest aides over the last several years.

“Alina will lead with the same diligence and conviction that has defined her career, and she will fight tirelessly to secure a Legal System that is both ‘Fair and Just’ for the wonderful people of New Jersey,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Habba gained national recognition serving as Trump’s attorney during his reelection campaign, representing him in cases such as the federal civil lawsuit brought by Michael Cohen and the New York civil fraud case in which Trump was ordered to pay over $350 million for overstating his net worth.

She was later a campaign spokeswoman and made appearances at several of his rallies during the summer and fall of 2024, including the Republican National Convention and Trump’s closing campaign rally at Madison Square Garden.

Habba was previously named counselor to the president following his reelection victory. She is a New Jersey native and founder of the New Jersey-based law firm Habba, Madaio & Associates.

After Trump posted the news, Habba released her own statement thanking the president and pledging to serve the people of her home state.

“I am honored to serve my home state of New Jersey as Interim U.S. Attorney and I am grateful to President Trump for entrusting me with this tremendous responsibility,” she posted on X. “Just like I did during my time as President Trump’s personal attorney, I will continue to fight for truth and justice. We will end the weaponization of justice, once and for all.”
