Former National Counterterrorism official Joe Kent firmly denied having leaked any information when pressed by conservative podcaster Mark Levin.
On Monday, Kent joined the Mark Levin Show, pitting two ideological rivals within the MAGA movement against each other. The show began with Levin directly confronting Kent over allegations that he was a known leaker, with Kent giving a firm “no” in response.
“I never leaked any classified information. And the stories you’re reading are stories from leakers who are leaking, I guess, maybe, an investigation about me being a leaker. So I think it’s just a media counter-narrative,” Kent said.
When pressed, he further claimed he had never been contacted by the FBI or Department of Justice over suspicions he was leaking, and that he never leaked confidential information.
The Washington Examiner previously spoke with multiple sources familiar with the Kent investigation, all current or former senior Trump administration officials granted anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. Three said they have no doubts Kent was leaking sensitive information.
SOME TRUMP LOYALISTS WORRY PROSECUTING JOE KENT WILL FURTHER EXPOSE IRAN WAR TENSIONS
Kent’s appearance on Levin’s show got heated at several points. Levin questioned why Kent was so convinced Iran wasn’t pursuing nuclear weapons, saying it was due to his “echo chamber.” When Kent countered that Levin was in his own echo chamber, Levin snapped.
“Hey, hey, pay attention to me!” Levin yelled. “I never lobbied the president. You guys keep putting that crap out there. I met with the president once at his request.”
He then told Kent that President Donald Trump laughed when he relayed that critics said he was lobbying the White House, instead divulging that he watched his show on Saturday and Sunday.
After Kent suggested that Levin was lobbying Trump through the power of his show, Levin said he was acting “almost ridiculous.”
