Trump said in a post on Truth Social that while congressional Republicans are unified in passing legislation to fund the department, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, he is going to sign the order because Democrats are “100% committed to the Radical Left Policy of Open Borders and Zero Immigration Enforcement.”
Trump added that the families of DHS employees have “suffered far too long at the hands of the Extreme Liberal ‘Leaders,’ Cryin’ Chuck Schumer and Hakeem ‘High Tax’ Jeffries.”
“Help is on the way for our Brave and Patriotic Public Servants,” Trump wrote.
Trump and congressional GOP leadership announced Wednesday plans to fund the entire department through a two-progroned approach: appropriations and reconciliation.
Capitol Hill has struggled to reach an agreement to reopen the department as Democrats have demanded to carve out money for immigration enforcement operations from a DHS funding bill, a proposal that several House Republicans have resoundingly rejected.
But as the funding lapse approaches the 50-day mark, Trump has put more pressure on Republicans to find a solution, and demanded that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) get a reconciliation bill that would fund ICE and CBP on his desk by June 1.

The Senate sent its bipartisan funding bill, which does not fund immigration enforcement operations, back to the House by unanimous consent during an early Thursday morning pro forma session. However, the House did not move to advance the bill during its own pro forma session later Thursday morning, as the bill faces opposition from Johnson’s right flank.
Still, Trump insisted on Truth Social that Republicans are unified, and “moving forward on a plan that will reload funding for our FANTASTIC Border Patrol and Immigration Enforcement Officers.”
