White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is holding her first press conference since the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire.
President Donald Trump announced the deal before his 8 p.m. Tuesday deadline that would have presumably seen the U.S. escalate its war with the Islamic regime. Because of the new deal, Trump’s threat that “a whole civilization will die tonight” was averted.
Pakistan, which played a mediating role between the U.S. and Iran, helped bring the temporary ceasefire to the finish line. Trump credited Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their efforts to secure peace in the Middle East.
Leavitt is scheduled to start briefing the press on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
