President Donald Trump joked Thursday that it was a “little tacky” to have McDonald’s delivered by DoorDash to the White House on Monday.

Speaking at a roundtable outlining the benefits of his tax policies in Las Vegas, Trump took a detour to reflect on a public incident on Monday when a grandmother delivered McDonald’s through DoorDash to the White House. He praised the delivery woman, Sharon Simmons, who had taken the job to pay for her husband’s cancer treatments.

“So earlier this week at the White House, I met a wonderful woman named Sharon Simmons, a grandmother driving DoorDash to help support her husband’s cancer treatments. He’s got serious cancer. He’s going to be OK. I think Sharon delivered McDonald’s to the Oval Office,” the president said, then appeared to go off script to complain about the event.

“I mean, to be honest, it was a little tacky,” he said with a laugh.

Amid laughter, Trump blamed his staff for the idea, going on to credit his staff for the most viral moments of his 2024 presidential campaign.

“You know, they come up with these crazy ideas, like McDonald’s, although that was the best one ever, on Google, they say, ‘No. 1 ever,’ and the garbage truck. I mean, we do these things in politics,” he said. “They’re a little embarrassing. They’re a little tiny embarrassing. But we do them and you win by landslides. So we’ve got to keep doing it.”

Trump recalled his thoughts during the DoorDash delivery, asking himself, “Is this really believable?”

“But the point of it was, she made $11,000 that she had no idea was coming. And it was really great. It turned out to be really great,” he said before moving on to talk more about his tax policies.

The president touched on the war with Iran, saying it resulted in “fake inflation” due to rising energy prices. He said he believed prices would settle soon and everyone would be “pleasantly surprised.”
