The Shocking Secret Behind the Bible’s Greatest Heroes (It Is Not What You Think!)

You might have read about all The Faithful in Hebrews 11. But have you ever stopped and asked, “What was their strength?” Here’s the surprising truth: Their strength wasn’t that they were strong and tough. Their strength was that they trusted and BELIEVED God right in the places they were weak.

Hebrews 11:33 describes people who “subdued kingdoms, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions…” That’s incredible. But how did they do it?

Hebrews 11:34 gives the answer: “…out of weakness were made strong.”

Take Gideon for example. He was the mighty leader who took 300 men into battle against thousands. But before that? He was hiding in a cave, afraid, unsure, and convinced he was the least qualified man in Israel.

Three hundred men vs. an army. Jars and torches instead of swords. Nothing about that situation screamed “strength.”

But Gideon had the faith to say, in effect: “If God said it, I’ll do it.”

And that’s the pattern of Hebrews 11. Not perfect people. Not fearless people. Not naturally strong people. But they were people whose faith in the One True God turned weakness into strength.
