When Faith Looks Like a Crime: The Forgotten Believer Who Paid the Price for Loyalty

THE WORLD TWISTS FAITHFULNESS TO GOD: We usually hear the phrase “aiding and abetting” when someone is helping a criminal. But in Acts 17, jealous men tried to use that same accusation against a believer named Jason simply because he supported Paul and Silas.

Look at what envy drove them to do: “The Jews who believed not, moved with envy… and assaulted the house of Jason.” Acts 17:5

What was Jason guilty of? Opening his home to the men who were preaching Christ. That’s it. But envy twisted it into treason. They dragged Jason out, trying to make him pay for helping the gospel spread.

THE LESSON FOR US TODAY: We don’t host apostles, but we do have opportunities to stand with, support, and side with those doing God’s work.

Ask yourself: Do I “aid and abet” Christians who are working hard to spread the gospel? Do I support those who preach and teach? Do I use my resources to help the mission? Jason reminds us: Standing with God’s people may bring the anger of unbelievers, but it brings the approval of God.

Look for ways to assist other Christians. Look for ways to stand beside those doing God’s will. And if it costs you something, you’re in good company…Jason’s kind of company.

Ephesians 1:13 shares a powerful promise. It explains that you are saved and securely sealed the very moment you hear and believe the word of truth, which is the good news of your salvation. That same message of truth is available to you right now:

“That Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.

Choose to believe this today. Life moves fast, and there is no better time to find that security than right now.
