Trump rejoices after Stephen Colbert’s last show

“No talent, no ratings, no life,” he continued. “He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”

In a follow-up post, Trump wrote a veiled threat aimed at other late-night hosts.

“Stephen Colbert’s firing from CBS was the “Beginning of the End” for untalented, nasty, highly overpaid, not funny, and very poorly rated Late Night Television Hosts. Others, of even less talent, to soon follow. May they all Rest in Peace!” he wrote.

The development comes after Trump had long railed against Colbert, praising CBS’s announcement last July that they would cancel the show. At the time, CBS cited the move as “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.” 

“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” Trump gloated in a Truth Social post. “His talent was even less than his ratings.” 

Colbert took over the show in 2015, succeeding the original host, David Letterman. Letterman mourned the end of the franchise this week, describing it as a loss for American culture.

“Kind of makes me sad,” he told NBC News. “We always relied on — you would read the newspaper in the morning, and at night you would see Johnny Carson. And Johnny would give you a perspective whether you agreed with it or not, but it was always funny.”

“And without that, I think we’re losing a valuable perspective,” Letterman added. “I think it’s very, very important to the American culture.”
