Beware of the Dogs. But do you know what they look like?

When you see a physical sign of “Beware of Dog.” You know what to watch out for. But what about the “dogs” that Paul warned about?

When you see a physical sign that says, “Beware of Dog,” you instantly know what to watch out for. And the next thing you look for is the fence, the boundary that tells you where the danger is. Most people don’t wander past a warning sign.

Paul gives the same kind of warning in Philippians:

“Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.” Philippians 3:2

By the way, “concision” has to do with those early worshipers that insisted on circumcision. But who are these “dogs”? Paul knew exactly who they were because he used to be one of them.

The context of the chapter makes it clear: These “dogs” are people who ADD conditions to salvation. These are people who say:

“Jesus isn’t enough.”

“You must ALSO do this.”

“You must ALSO keep these rituals.”

Paul calls these persons “dogs.” But in the very next verse, Paul draws the fence line: “…we worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus…”
Philippians 3:3

No additions. No extra requirements. Just Christ alone.

Ephesians 1:13 gives a powerful promise: You are saved and securely sealed the very moment you hear and believe the word of truth the good news of your salvation.

That same message of truth is available to you right now:

“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3,4

Choose to believe this today. Life moves fast and there is no better time to find that security than right now.
