No Pain, No Gain? But what do you GAIN when you believe and trust in the LORD Jesus Christ?

I’m sure if you ever played a sport, you have heard the phrase, “No Pain, No Gain.” You grind through practice. Your coach pushes you. You strain, sweat, and struggle. And the result? You get better and maybe even win. Watch here:

But the Bible talks about a different kind of discipline. The discipline of a Father, specifically our Heavenly Father. And Hebrews 12:11 tells us plainly that this discipline isn’t pleasant in the moment:

“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous…”

And we feel it. It comes in many forms from learning lessons the hard way… being confronted with right vs. wrong… being nudged to change direction.

Just like your own story with your earthly father, you and your Heavenly Father share a story of how He has shaped you.

And none of it feels pleasant while it’s happening. So don’t forget that and don’t resist the shaping.

But here’s the real question: If “No Pain, No Gain” gives you a reward in sports, what is the “gain” when the Heavenly Father disciplines His children?

Hebrews 12:11 answers that too:

“…nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”

We get peace.

Not the world’s peace. Not temporary peace. Not circumstantial peace. The peaceable fruit of righteousness.

A peace the wicked chase but never grasp. A peace that only comes from being shaped by the Father.

But more importantly, there’s Scripture verse that precedes this reminds the ultimate an ever greater benefit:

“For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.” Hebrews 12:10

In other words, we can become MORE like Jesus himself.

And here’s the promise that anchors it all:

Ephesians 1:13 gives a powerful promise: You are saved and securely sealed the very moment you hear and believe the word of truth the good news of your salvation.

That same message of truth is available to you right now:

“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3,4

Choose to believe this today. Life moves fast and there is no better time to find that security than right now.
