Four free picks, four places to start, one massive NHL slate.
Connor McDavid points (higher): Edmonton visits New Jersey at 7:30 p.m. ET, and McDavid is still the most reliable point producer in hockey. Even when the Oilers have a quiet night, the offense usually runs through him. He’s the anchor for any NHL entry tonight.
Connor Hellebuyck saves (higher): Hellebuyck has been excellent since arriving in New Jersey, going 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. Facing McDavid and Leon Draisaitl means facing a lot of rubber. If Edmonton controls play the way it usually does, Hellebuyck’s saves line is in play.
Leon Draisaitl points (higher): The Devils will likely put their top shutdown pieces on McDavid’s line, which can leave Draisaitl with easier matchups. He also runs the top power play alongside McDavid. Pairing the two is a simple way to bet on Edmonton’s top end breaking through.
Nikita Kucherov points (higher): Kucherov won his second Hart Trophy last season, and Tampa Bay hosts Detroit at 7 p.m. ET. Home games against a Red Wings team still building toward contention are exactly where Kucherov tends to pile up points.
New Jersey is favored at home largely because of the matchup in net. Edmonton’s Tristan Jarry is 4-1-2 with two shutouts, but his .901 save percentage trails Hellebuyck by a wide margin. The Devils won the last meeting 2-1 in January, and the under is priced at -125, so the books see another low-scoring game coming.
