Former President Joe Biden was reportedly shielded from his Cabinet for much of his final two years in the White House, with secretaries claiming anonymously in a new book they were “kept at bay.”
Anonymous Cabinet secretaries told Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson about their concerns regarding Biden for the journalists’ upcoming book, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again. CNN reported the latest claims about concerns with Biden’s mental acuity.
“Access dropped off considerably in 2024, and I didn’t interact with him as much,” one Cabinet secretary told the authors. The same person said they were concerned that top White House officials were “leading” Biden to decisions, rather than the then-president making them on his own.
Many officials said they were instructed to brief White House staff rather than the president, and the staff would then report back to Biden.
Another unnamed Cabinet secretary said Biden’s top aides had “shielded him in every meeting,” noting that from October 2023, they were kept at a distance from the president and “didn’t have access to him” for months.
The anonymous secretary was “shocked by how the president was acting” and noted “he seemed ‘disoriented’ and ‘out of it,’ his mouth agape,” the authors wrote in the book.
None of the Cabinet members publicized their concerns during Biden’s term.
A Biden spokesperson told CNN that they “continue to await anything that shows where Joe Biden had to make a presidential decision or where national security was threatened or where he was unable to do his job.” The spokesperson said that “the evidence points to the opposite — he was a very effective president.”
WHO WAS FOOLED BY THE BIDEN DECLINE COVER-UP? NOT THE VOTERS
The book, slated for release next week, also revealed that Biden’s advisers had debated whether the then-president would use a wheelchair if he won reelection, noting his physical deterioration.
The authors claim that the hundreds of interviews conducted to write the book were done after the 2024 election ended. President Donald Trump defeated then-Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election after she replaced Biden as the Democratic nominee following his decision to drop out in July.
