Musk appears to endorse Trump impeachment as social media spat spirals out of control at george magazine

Elon Musk appeared to express support for impeaching President Donald Trump and replacing him with Vice President JD Vance.

“Yes,” Musk wrote on his own social media platform in response to a post calling for the removal of Trump.

The post represents the latest in a social media spat between Trump and Musk that started earlier Thursday. The president told reporters at the White House that his working relationship with the billionaire tech entrepreneur was most likely over because of Musk’s opposition to the “big, beautiful” spending and tax bill, and he suggested Musk suffered from “Trump derangement syndrome.”

Earlier this week, Musk described Trump’s spending and tax bill as a “disgusting abomination” for being a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled” measure, supported by the Congressional Budget Office, which predicted it would add $2.4 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade. Musk, who spent almost $300 million on last year’s election, had also encouraged the primarying of lawmakers who voted for it.

When asked about Musk’s comments during a White House meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump conveyed his disappointment in Musk, saying he was uncertain whether they would have a working relationship in the future.

“Elon is upset because we took the EV mandate, which was a lot of money for electric vehicles, and they’re having a hard time,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “I know that disturbed him. He wanted somebody that he knew very well to run NASA, and I didn’t think it was appropriate. He happened to be a Democrat, like totally Democrat.”

TRUMP AND MUSK AT WAR: SIMMERING FEUD OVER TAX BILL AND EV MANDATES SPILLS OUT INTO OPEN

Musk responded in real time on X, arguing Trump would not have won last year’s election without him and complaining about the president’s “ingratitude.”

“Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill,” he wrote. “In the entire history of civilization, there has never been legislation that both big and beautiful. Everyone knows this! Either you get a big and ugly bill or a slim and beautiful bill. Slim and beautiful is the way.”

Trump later threatened to revoke Musk’s federal government contracts, with the Tesla CEO announcing his SpaceX will start decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately.

There is little appetite on Capitol Hill to pursue any impeachment effort of Trump, with Democrats in the minority and appearing largely uninterested in resolutions to do so.

Democratic leadership put pressure on Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) to pull his articles of impeachment against Trump from the House floor last month, and many House Democrats have argued that pushing for an impeachment inquiry is pointless with a lack of GOP support.

It’s unlikely Musk’s apparent impeachment endorsement will tip the scale and cause Republicans to join the inquiry push from Democrats.

Thanedar isn’t expecting it but would “love to see a bipartisan coalition forming around impeaching the president” due to the feud between Trump and Musk.

“I usually don’t have much to agree with Elon Musk,” Thanedar said. “But certainly on two things: I agree the so-called big, beautiful bill must be defeated, and Mr. Trump … I fully believe that he should be impeached.”
