President Donald Trump promised that the nation would always be “In God We Trust,” part of his larger Holy Week commitment to continue protecting Christianity within the United States.

Trump spoke at the White House’s Easter dinner on Wednesday, during which he reflected on the biblical account of Jesus Christ dying and rising again three days later and on “God’s grace” being with his administration’s first three months. The accomplishments he touted at the dinner included “a whole new spirit” within the nation and standing up for persecuted Christians across the world, who have been “so incredibly destroyed.”

The president also cited how he created the White House Faith Force and a new task force at the Department of Justice to “eradicate anti-Christian bias” in the country. He then celebrated how the administration is working to halt the “radical indoctrination” within schools, and his executive order stating that “God created two genders: male and female.”

“So there’s so much to celebrate this Easter,” Trump said. “This is really, I hope, going to be one of the great[est] Easters ever because we have something going that I don’t think this country has seen in a hundred years. And as we gather with family and friends, we’ll not forget the true source of our joy and our strength. America has put our trust in God. It will always be ‘In God We Trust.’ We will never change that. You know, there’s a movement to change it — it will not happen.”

Trump invited Pastor Jentezen Franklin to speak at the dinner, during which he expressed gratitude that God “assigned an angel” to stand between Trump and “that bullet,” referring to the assassination attempt against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year. The attempt on his life occurred when Trump was campaigning for president, and Trump credited God for saving his life in a post on Truth Social.

The dinner comes after the White House recognized the start of Holy Week on Palm Sunday. Trump said he and first lady Melania Trump were joining Christians across the nation to remember the pivotal week in Christian history. The president also prayed that the U.S. would remain “a beacon of faith, hope, and freedom” for the world.

On Thursday, the White House is set to host a staff worship service that will include Franklin’s attendance as well as Reverend Franklin Graham and Pastor Paula White, the latter being the senior adviser to the White House Faith Office. The worship service will also feature music performed by Liberty University, a Christian university in Lynchburg, Virginia.
