FROM whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:1-4

President Donald Trump said Thursday that he plans to use a portion of incoming tariff revenue to provide direct relief to U.S. farmers.

Trump’s trade wars and lingering effects from Russia’s war in Ukraine have seen agricultural inputs, ranging from fertilizer to machinery, jump significantly in recent years. Furthermore, agriculture remains a particular sticking point in trade talks between Washington and Beijing, with China canceling all orders of U.S. soybeans just a few weeks ago.

However, during a bilateral meeting on Thursday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Trump said he planned to provide direct relief to struggling farmers.

“We’re doing well because of tariffs. We’re doing unbelievable,” the president said. “We’re going to take some of that tariff money that we made [and] we’re going to give it to our farmers, who are, for a little while, going to be hurt until it kicks in — the tariffs kick in to their benefit. So we’re going to make sure that our farmers are in great shape, because we’re taking in a lot of money.”

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and other Trump administration officials have hinted at new farm aid packages for months.

“The farmer relief is continuing. I’ve had a lot of conversations with you guys here in the gaggle on that over the last six months,” Rollins told reporters at the White House on Wednesday. “We are currently in conversations here at the White House, across the government on a farmer aid package.”
