Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 118:28-29

Washington Examiner Chief Political Correspondent Byron York said President Donald Trump’s meeting with New York City Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani reminded him of when Trump first arrived in Washington, D.C.

“He came to Washington as a newly elected president in 2017. Believing by the power of his personality he actually could bring people together,” York said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle. “And he actually could deal with Democrats.”

York said Trump discovered politics in Washington, D.C., was more “poisonous” than he had thought.

After months of talking poorly about each other, Trump and Mamdani had a respectful conversation and a reinvigorated relationship following the meeting.

York said that Trump and Mamdani won’t be “buds” for a long time, despite the two praising each other in the Oval Office to reporters.

“This really was a view of how Trump can deal with the other party if he feels he’s got a little room to do so,” York said.

York said it’s not crazy to think that Democrats will try to impeach Trump if they take back control of the House in the midterm elections.

“I think it is a very, very good bet that they will impeach the president again,” he said.

York said if internal polling and research show the public doesn’t want it, Democrats might not go through with trying to impeach the president.

“If they have polling and research that shows Americans think, you know, ‘been there, done that…’ that might give them some pause,” York said. “But I think the urge inside the party is so strong they’ll go ahead and do it.”
