Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 118:28-29

How to Cheat for Dummies

By Jordan M. Clarke

Lying is something that exists in human nature; we all do it. From the lies you tell yourself to spare your own feelings to deception and cheating that ruin families and friendships, it’s no shock to see lying being used for political gain and power. Sometimes, when you’re really good at lying, you don’t even have to tell your own lies. You can just have other people do it for you, which makes you even more deceptive because now other people are aiding you to look more convincing. Sound familiar? Just to be more clear, I have provided a couple of examples of certain people stretching their own truths. If you’re reading this and thinking, “but, lying and cheating aren’t the same thing!”—I hate to tell you this, but you can’t have one without the other. By the time you’re done reading this, even YOU can become a master manipulator, lying and cheating your way to the very top!

Gerrymandering, as discussed in George Magazine’s Issue 11 article, “How Political Parties Cheat the Vote with Gerrymandering” by Jon David, is a technique used by politicians to secure house seats. Twenty-three years following the George Magazine May 2000 article, “Will the Biggest Liar Win?” By Peter Keating, lying politicians has become a normal tactic for the game—it’s expected and normalized. In the end, the truth always comes out, and the liar is always revealed.

The key to lying and cheating is the manipulation factor. The success of one’s cheating depends on how well they manipulate the party they are trying to influence. When manipulation doesn’t work and all else fails, it’s time to deflect.

As Keating stated in his article, Bush used advocacy for breast cancer research to fuel his campaign against John McCain, insinuating that McCain didn’t hold any space for regard on women’s health issues. “We deserve a candidate with records on women’s issues we can trust,” radios announced during the running Bush campaign ads. “Everyone knows I’m not against breast cancer research,” McCain explained. Bush, rather than facing some of his own realities, deflected the hot seat being on him by hypothetically saying, “Well, at least I care about women!” When all else fails—be sure to point the finger!

60 Minutes interviewer, Bill Whitaker, asked Kamala Harris, “Your plans are logical—the way Washington works is not logical. How are you gonna convince a divided Congress that your plans are something they should agree to and provide to the American people—they’ve shown no inclination to do that up to this point?” Following Whitaker’s question, producers asked for a 30-second pause before Harris’s response. “Well, how will you?” Whitaker asks her off the record. “It’s gonna be taxes,” she replies. “It’s gonna be literally if the economists—I mean, they’re—from each perspective—” Whitaker chimes in, “but I hear what you’re saying about the economists—but Congress is not the economist.” Harris then replies, “I know.” As you can see, deflection avoids confrontation.

According to the Trump White House Archives, on May 26, 2020, President Trump and his administration improved healthcare for our nation’s citizens and lowered the cost of insulin to $35. Medicare Part D plans and Medicare Advantage plans have applied to offer lower out-of-pocket insulin costs to seniors for the 2021 plan year. Participating enhanced Part D plans provided many seniors with Medicare access to a broad set of insulins at a maximum $35 copay for a month’s supply of each type of insulin.

However, in July of 2024, Kamala Harris stated, “It is President Biden and I that took on Big Pharma and finally capped the cost of insulin at $35 a month—but Donald Trump and his running mate intend to get RID of our $35 cap on insulin!”

When it comes to politicians, the ultimate cheat is empty promises, which we have seen numerous times throughout our history’s leaders. Former President Biden’s economic policy focuses on economic growth through government investing and reducing income inequality—because we all deserve to make the same pay no matter if we choose to work hard or not. This means raising taxes to support public services and other unionizations. Kamala Harris stated, “Bidenomics is working—it’s working!” According to Bidenomics.com, most Americans are not in a good place financially. According to the previous administration, the economy is thriving. As they continue to gaslight their fellow Americans, the cost of living has risen 19.4% and continues to rise, hourly wages are down 2.5%, and when the Biden administration took office, the national debt was $27.8 trillion, and it is now more than $34.2 trillion. It’s working! “We’re literally reducing the cost of people being able to meet their basic needs,” Biden stated. Oh, the irony—Joe Biden’s energy policies have hit Americans hard. Since he came into office, home heating oil is up 44%, gasoline is up 33%, electricity is up 29%, and natural gas is up 27%. “She is Biden,” Trump argued. “The worst inflation we’ve ever had—horrible economy because inflation has made it so bad.”

The amount of times the former vice president has contradicted herself is astronomical—but not as outrageous as the ignorance that comes into play when we point out that it was a huge failure.

On Iowa PBS in 2019, Harris stated, “This business is about taking guns away—Tim Walz and I are both gun owners—we aren’t taking anyone’s guns away. Stop with the continuous lying about this stuff.” Interestingly enough, just short of 5 years later, Harris stated, “I support a mandatory buy-back program—we have 5 million assault weapons on the streets of America. It’s mandatory.”

On a TikTok post by Courier Mail, a video of Harris is seen dodging the press by pretending to be on a phone call with a potential voter who went by the name Jane. Harris then held up her phone to get applause from the crowd when Jane said she voted for her. The phone showed the camera app clearly open with no live-call notification on her iPhone.

We can’t put all the heat on the Democrats—the right is guilty of it too. In August 2024, Trump stated, “Starting the day I take the oath of office, I will rapidly drive prices down, and we will Make America Affordable Again!”

Just a month after taking his oath of office, President Trump said, “Inflation is back—I’m only here for two and a half weeks—I had nothing to do with it.”

While millions of Americans, including conservatives and Trump-hating liberals, had hope for keeping his word, he ultimately fell short. “I don’t believe Trump or Republicans are liars; I believe they tell you exactly who they are by their actions,” says an anonymous former New York native currently residing in Virginia. “For someone who built the majority of their campaign on cheaper groceries and gas, we haven’t seen a change in that at all—if anything, they’re the most expensive they’ve ever been,” they stated. “Instead, things like the Gulf of Mexico are the focus—how is that supposed to help Americans have a better life?” I asked them how this has impacted their cost of living. “They’ve gone up [grocery prices]—I’m one person, and my grocery bill went up to $200; it was approximately $140 beforehand.” This is the common issue for most Americans today. “I’m definitely more stressed trying to stretch my paychecks out as much as possible,” they explained to me. “Sometimes, I have less than $50 in my account the week leading up to getting paid.”

“Together we will deliver low taxes, low regulations, low energy costs, low interest rates—low inflation,” Trump stated in October 2024. “Everyone can afford groceries, a car, and a home—common sense.”

In December 2024, just a couple of months following that statement, Trump was asked if tariffs will negatively affect consumers. His reply—“I don’t believe that—I can’t guarantee tomorrow.”

Pick your poison—different rules for each player, and they’re all part of the same game. The ultimate quest: who can sweet talk-their way into the Oval Office? After all is said and done, we will see who the biggest liar is…it just may surprise us all.
