President Donald Trump all but declared plans Thursday that the United States will turn its focus to Cuba after finishing his military campaign in Iran, saying “we want to do that special — Cuba.”

Trump, speaking at a White House ceremony honoring the 2025 MLS Cup champion Inter Miami FC, first gave an update on Operation Epic Fury and thanked “all of the people that have been involved.”

Trump specifically called out Secretary of State Marco Rubio by name, adding that he’s also “been doing a fantastic job on a place called Cuba.”

“What’s happening with Cuba is amazing, and we think that we want to finish this one first,” the president ad-libbed to the room. “But that will be just a question of time before you and a lot of unbelievable people are going to be going back to Cuba, hopefully not to stay.”

“You won’t need my approval. You just fly back in,” he continued. We’re going to celebrate that separately. We — I just want to wait a couple of weeks. I wanted to wait a couple of weeks, but we’ll be together again soon. I suspect celebrating what’s going on in Cuba, they want to make a deal so badly. You have no idea.”

Later in his remarks, Trump again touted Rubio and told the crowd, “We want to do that special — Cuba.”

“[Rubio’s] waiting, but he says, ‘let’s get this one finished first. We could do them all at the same, but bad things happen,’” the president continued. “If you watch countries over the years, you do them all too fast, bad things happen. We’re not going to let anything bad happen to this country.”
