Trump piles on Jill Biden criticism over thinking Joe had a stroke during presidential debate

Trump has frequently stated that the Biden administration and the former first lady hid the true state of Biden’s health, claiming he was declining much faster than what was presented to the public.

“The only thing she failed to mention was how well I was doing prior to his near total collapse,” Trump added. “In other words, as many have asked, did my strong performance in that debate cause him to plain and simple “choke,” leading to his ignominious defeat, or were other reasons the cause? Nobody else knows the answer to that, BUT I DO!!!”

Jill Biden made the comments about her husband’s performance in the 2024 debate against Trump earlier this week, contradicting her claim immediately after the debate that he had done a great job.

“I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since,” Jill Biden said during an interview with CBS News. “I don’t know what happened. As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death.”

Republicans and conservative commentators quickly seized on Jill Biden’s remarks, arguing they undercut previous assurances that Biden’s poor debate showing was an isolated incident and renewed scrutiny over how the former president’s health was handled by those closest to him. 

On Fox News late Thursday, host Greg Gutfeld used his opening monologue to criticize the former first lady, arguing that if she truly believed her husband was suffering a medical emergency during the debate, it raised broader questions about why he remained in office and on the campaign trail.

“You can’t go from covering up this mess to being shocked by this mess,” Gutfeld said. 

He went on to claim that Jill Biden is still “deceiving” people to sell her upcoming book, View from The East Wing. 

The comments reopened a politically damaging chapter for Democrats, as Biden’s June 2024 debate performance is widely viewed as the turning point that ultimately led to his decision to exit the race less than a month later and endorse then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

Democrats are not happy that Jill Biden is revisiting the pivotal moment in the 2024 campaign, with one strategist previously telling the Washington Examiner that the Bidens “suck.” Another said it’s “definitely not helpful” as the Democrats hope to take back control of Congress in November.
