What’s on Marco’s playlist? Rubio gushes over electronic music and Tupac

The Cabinet official said he appreciates EDM remixes of the classics, specifically noting a remix of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire,” which he characterized as “really good.”

Marco Rubio said he likes a wide variety of music, but there is one genre that is not making it into his Spotify Wrapped: country music.

“I’m not anti-country music, but that’s not my thing,” he said, noting his wife “loves” the genre. “I think it’s just very sad. Most of the songs are about, like, somebody whose wife and dog left him.”

Jeanette Rubio contested, suggesting her husband needs to listen to other artists, pointing to Morgan Wallen. Marco Rubio admitted that “some of them are good.” After the couple’s differing tastes in music came to light, Miller asked who picks the music in the car. Marco Rubio explained he can’t have a radio in the car, but said his wife is usually the DJ.

Jeanette Rubio objected to the notion that she rules over the radio and says her husband occasionally gets a say.

“She says my music gives her a headache,” the secretary of state responded.

Miller also asked Marco Rubio who his favorite rapper is, and the secretary of state gave the honors to Tupac.

“Just from an artistic standpoint, I mean, he never lived long enough to know what he would have turned into, but Tupac was very, very talented,” he said, noting the slain rapper’s range of talents. “He was a good lyricist. I thought he was a very talented person, primarily because he was a narrator more than anything else.”

Marco Rubio has made several media appearances since taking a role in President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, but conversations have mainly stuck to foreign policy. During his time on Miller’s podcast, the secretary also discussed fatherhood and conspiracy theories.

The secretary of state said that while he doesn’t have a favorite conspiracy theory, he has long followed reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena seen over military installations. He explained that during his tenure in the Senate, he looked into reports of UAPs over military posts, which he said gave him a new avenue to dodge reporters’ questions.

“I don’t call it a conspiracy. I don’t know the answer to any of it. I’m just asking the question of, we should know what’s flying over our airspace,” he said.
