Biden in Florida: Voters will ‘hold Trump accountable’ for abortion ban at george magazine

President Joe Biden slammed former President Donald Trump for “making a deal with MAGA extremists” that led to the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision tearing down federal abortion protections included in Roe v. Wade.

Biden has spent months tying Trump and the three Supreme Court justices he nominated to a rash of state abortion bans enacted in the wake of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision, and he reiterated that rhetoric Tuesday in Florida.

Florida was one of the only states to display a “red wave” in the 2022 midterm elections, on top of going for Trump in 2016, and 2020, yet Democrats and the president’s reelection campaign have stated they believe abortion will bring the state back into play for Biden in 2024.

The president’s remarks come just before Florida’s six-week abortion restriction is set to take effect on May 1, which Biden claimed would affect 4 million women across the state before dovetailing directly into an attack against his Republican opponent.

“Let’s be real clear,” Biden opened Tuesday. “There’s one person responsible for this nightmare, and he’s acknowledged it, and he brags about it: Donald Trump. The bad news for Trump is we are going to hold him accountable. We are. He should be held accountable. He should be accountable for states enacting extreme laws that put IVF treatments at risk for women desperately trying to have a family.

“I believe voters are going to hold Trump accountable when family members and doctors are threatened with prosecution for trying to help them,” the president continued, claiming that women now have “fewer rights” than their mothers and grandmothers.

Biden chided Trump for calling the Dobbs decision a miracle, before mocking his predecessor for the $60 Bibles he is selling on his campaign website.

“The extreme laws passed since overturning Roe v. Wade have no place in the United States of America, but what does have a place in America is your voice,” the president closed. “You’ve got to show up and vote. Are you ready to protect freedom? It was Donald Trump who ripped away the rights of women in America. And it will be all of us who restore those rights for women in America. When you do that, we’ll teach Donald Trump and his extreme MAGA Republicans a valuable lesson: Don’t mess with the women of America.”
