The Exodus is one of the most epic dramas in history. Most people know the story of Passover, but completely miss the hidden meaning behind the first nine plagues. They were not just random natural disasters. Each plague was a targeted strike in an invisible cosmic war, designed to humiliate specific ancient Egyptian gods. It was an absolute power move by the God of Abraham and Moses to prove total supremacy.
The Ninth Plague: Absolute Darkness
The ninth plague was not just a simple lack of light. It was a darkness so heavy you could actually feel it. The ancient historian Josephus described the sheer terror of this event:
“But when Moses said that what he desired was unjust, since they were obliged to offer sacrifices to God of those cattle, and the time being prolonged on this account, a thick darkness, without the least light, spread itself over the Egyptians, whereby their sight being obstructed, and their breathing hindered by the thickness of the air, they were under terror lest they be swallowed up by the thick cloud. This darkness, after three days and as many nights, was dissipated.”
The Bible details this exact same suffocating blackout in Exodus 10:22-23:
“And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.”
So, where were the Egyptian gods while all this went down? Ra, the supreme sun god, was completely missing in action. The same goes for Aten the sun disc, Horus the god of the sunrise, Tem the god of the sunset, and Shu the god of light. The Egyptians practically worshiped the sun as the source of all life. Yet, in their darkest hour, their most powerful deities were totally powerless, exposed as absolute frauds before the Great God of Heaven and Earth.
