Ella Langley goes viral after shutting down fan who asked her on a date

Ella Langley is clapping back at fans who thought she handled an awkward situation with a fan poorly.

The “Choosin’ Texas” singer has gone viral after a man asked her out after her Sept. 24 show in Knoxville, Tennessee, then posted the video of her response on social media.

In the video, TikTok user Tiki is heard taking his chance to ask the singer out on a date, shouting through a fence in the parking lot, “Ella, how many likes to take you on a date?”

She didn’t seem too taken with the idea of a romance with the fan, as she looked at him with a serious look on her face and said, “Not enough in the world,” as she frowned and looked away.

He then stood with his arms crossed over his chest, looked at the camera and said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

Some fans in the comments section were not pleased with Langley’s reaction to the fan. “This rubbed me the wrong way. And I like her,” one fan wrote, while another asked, “Literally what is her problem?”

Another added, “She could have laughed and said no in a whole different way.”

In response to the criticism, Langley spoke up in the comments section herself, writing, “It was meant to come off as dark humor. You said that and it got quiet and I got nervous.”

While many took issue with the way she responded, others came to her defense, pointing out that just because she is famous, she’s not required to be nice all the time. One fan wrote, “Being screamed at 24/7 would get irritating.”

“There’s no way yall are mad at her for reacting negatively to a kid screaming at her asking to take her on a date in front of her team??? Yall gotta go outside,” one fan wrote in her defense.

Another added, “This made me like her even more. Its not her job to be nice to random men. She set her boundary, respect it.” A fourth fan wrote, “She doesn’t have to go on a date with a random guy just because he asked.. are y’all okay 💀???”

The singer may have had another reason to say no to the fan, as she was recently seen leaving an event in Nashville with fellow country star Tucker Westmore, sparking romance rumors.

Langley’s show at the Food City Center in Knoxville came as she made history with her smash hit “Choosin’ Texas.” It officially became the longest-running No.1 in all of Billboard’s Hot 100 history after spending 23 weeks in the top spot.

She celebrated the news with a video on Instagram, thanking her fans “for loving this song.”

“I’m genuinely trying to find the words to help explain what’s going on in my brain today,” she said. “It feels exactly like a ‘We don’t know! What?’ I don’t know. Thank you so much.”
