Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said on Tuesday as the midterm elections were underway that her office in Biddeford, Maine, was vandalized with red paint on Monday evening.
“This is so unacceptable, and it’s unfair to my caseworkers who are working there,” she told CBS News. “And, fortunately, they refuse to be intimidated by this and the office is open and doing business today.”
Collins said the office was there to help her constituents with Social Security, veterans benefits, or the Internal Revenue Service.
“This is not a political office,” she said.
The vandals, she said, poured red paint that said, “Blood on her hands.” It’s the second time the vandalism has occurred at that office during the 2026 campaign, the Republican senator added.
Photos and videos on social media showed large red letters painted on the pavement in front of the office doors.
Collins’s challenger for the U.S. Senate seat, former Democratic state Sen. Troy Jackson, issued a statement to Fox News condemning the vandalism.
“There’s no place for this in Maine. Vandalism and intimidation are wrong, full stop. Senator Collins and her staff should be able to do their jobs without anyone defacing their office, and I condemn whoever did this,” Jackson said.
Jackson’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request from The Epoch Times for a comment.
In September, the same office was vandalized, with an offensive remark spray-painted on the doors of the building, according to Republican state Sen. Matt Harrington.
Jackson is a former Maine state Senate president who took over as the Democratic nominee in July after Democratic primary winner Graham Platner dropped out. He is tasked with defeating a longtime incumbent after a chaotic primary season that left the Democrats in disarray and briefly without a candidate.
Collins, 73, was first elected in 1996. She is one of the most well-known figures in Maine politics and is seeking her sixth Senate term.
She grew up in the northern Maine city of Caribou, where her family owns a sixth-generation lumber business. Collins worked for Republican Sen. William Cohen for many years, starting when Cohen served in the U.S. House of Representatives, and later succeeding him in the Senate.

Voters across the United States on Nov. 3 are deciding which party will control the U.S. House and Senate. Democrats must flip four seats in the Senate and three seats in the House to take the chambers from Republicans.
Power in Congress would give Democrats a means of rebuffing President Donald Trump’s agenda during the final two years of his term.
All eyes are on Senate contests in Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, and Maine. House battlegrounds are scattered across the country.
