U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro sharply criticized her predecessor, Matthew Graves, for failing to prosecute the majority of arrests in the nation’s capital, vowing to restore law and order and hold young offenders accountable.

Speaking on Fox News Tuesday, Pirro said her office is taking an aggressive new approach to crime after inheriting what she called a “neglected, unattended to office.”

“At the end, the question is whether or not Congress wants to get involved,” Pirro said. “And if Congress gets involved, we can change these laws. We can make these young offenders accountable.”

Pirro took aim at Washington D.C.’s lenient juvenile justice system, mocking what she described as a culture of “yoga and ice cream socials and family court” for serious offenders.

“We can give rehabilitation in the criminal court for young offenders who deserve it,” she continued. “But there is no message of accountability here. And right now, in my office, when I got here, the prosecutor before me, the Biden prosecutor, did not paper something like 65% of the arrests. That means that when police made an arrest, the prosecutor wouldn’t even prosecute. My papering rate is 92%.”

Pirro said she has made it clear to local police that her office will back them up when they make arrests.

“Those cops make an arrest, I’ve got their back,” she said. “I’m going to file those charges. And whatever happens, so be it. But they know right now that we’re going to fight the fight.”

Pirro said the D.C. office had been short-staffed when she arrived, missing “90 prosecutors, 150 investigators and paralegals.”

She credited President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for helping to rebuild the department.

“This was a neglected, unattended to office,” Pirro said. “We’re changing everything in D.C., and we’re going to make a difference. And thanks to President Trump and the attorney general, Pam Bondi, we’ve got a full-court press on this.”

Pirro’s comments came just one day after her office announced federal charges against two 18- and 19-year-old suspects in a brutal Washington, D.C., attack that left former DOGE staffer Edward Coristine hospitalized.

The teens, Lawrence Cotton Powell and Anthony Taylor, were charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and assault with intent to commit robbery, each punishable by up to 15 years in prison, along with attempted carjacking, which carries a penalty of up to five years.

Pirro said the charges underscore “the need for accountability of offenders in the district.”
