The Secret Service announced that it will conduct a “routine active threat exercise” at the White House on Friday evening.

The exercise will last approximately five hours and take place between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. The Secret Service said those near the White House may hear simulated gunfire and see more law enforcement in the area.

No road closures will be in effect, but some sidewalks may be closed to pedestrians.

In a statement, the agency emphasized that the exercise is routine and is not in response to a specific threat.

The Secret Service is tasked with protecting political leaders, including the president, and evaluating possible threats.

The active threat exercise will take place while President Donald Trump is in Alaska meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
