Trump declares that ‘we’ve won’ in Iran at george magazine

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States has won the Iran war despite his previous vague statements that the conflict would end when the Islamic Republic presents an “unconditional surrender.”

While speaking in Kentucky, Trump bragged that “Operation Epic Fury,” the joint U.S.-Israel operation against Iran, was a “great name.”

“Is that a great name?” asked Trump. “Well, it’s only good if you win … and we’ve won. Let me say we’ve won. You know, you never like to say too early [that] you won. We won. We won … in the first hour, it was over. We won.”

The comments come after the administration has sent mixed signals about the timeline for ending the war, which started on Feb. 28.

Before his speech in the Bluegrass State, Trump told Axios that the war could end “soon” because there is “practically nothing left to target.”

One day earlier, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that “the operations will end when the commander in chief determines the military objectives have been met fully realized, and that Iran is in a position of complete and unconditional surrender.”

Leavitt suggested that an Iranian surrender means that “threats will no longer be backed by a ballistic missile arsenal that protects them from building a nuclear bomb in their country.”

Trump also claimed his administration “is also working to keep the oil flowing” after gas prices increased following the commencement of the war.
