President Donald Trump said authorities are investigating a CNN report that cited Iran‘s claim of victory in its war with the United States and Israel.

The White House pointed to an article about Tuesday’s two-week ceasefire agreement on CNN’s live blog titled “Iran claims victory, says it forced US to accept 10-point plan.” The White House wrote in an X post that the article used a statement that “is a FRAUD” and asked the outlet to “Correct immediately!”

“The alleged Statement put out by CNN World News is a FRAUD, as CNN well knows. The false Statement was linked to a Fake News site (from Nigeria) and, of course, immediately picked up by CNN, and blared out as a ‘legitimate’ headline,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The CNN article said the outlet obtained the statement, in which the regime claimed victory, from Iranian officials and that multiple Iranian media outlets reported the statement.

“The statement in question was obtained by CNN from Iranian officials and reported on multiple Iranian state media outlets. We received the statement from specific official Iranian spokespeople who are known to us,” CNN Communications said in a statement.

Iran’s claim contrasted with the White House’s, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt posting on X to declare U.S. victory with the ceasefire agreement.

“This is a victory for the United States that President Trump and our incredible military made happen. From the very beginning of Operation Epic Fury, President Trump estimated this would be a 4-6 week operation. Thanks to the unbelievable capabilities of our warriors, we have achieved and exceeded our core military objectives in 38 days,” Leavitt wrote.

In his Truth Social post, Trump pointed to a statement on the ceasefire from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on behalf of the Supreme National Security Council. In the statement, Iran agreed to allow the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the Iranian military in exchange for the cessation of hostilities. A regional official said Iran and Oman would both charge vessels a fee to transit the waterway, with Iran using the money for reconstruction.

“Authorities are looking to determine whether or not a crime was committed on the issuance of the Fake CNN World Statement, or was it a sick rogue player? CNN is being ordered to immediately withdraw this Statement with full apologies for their, as usual, terrible ‘reporting,’” Trump wrote.

It was not immediately clear what crime the incident would fall under. The Washington Examiner has reached out to the White House for comment.

Trump said that the results of the investigation into the article “will be announced in the near future.”
