“During my five years as President, Tim would call me, but never too much, and I would help him where I could,” Trump wrote in a lengthy Truth Social post. “Years latter, after 3 or 4 BIG HELPS, I started to say to people, anyone who would listen, that this guy is an amazing manager and leader.”
Trump recalled the call that sparked their relationship, when Cook called him for help with a “fairly large” problem, which the president did not detail.
“He had a fairly large problem that only I, as President, could fix,” Trump wrote Tuesday morning. “Most people would have paid millions of dollars to a consultant, who I probably would not have known, but who would say that he knew me well…. When I got the call I said, wow, it’s Tim Apple (Cook!) calling, how big is that? I was very impressed with myself to have the head of Apple calling to “kiss my ass.””
“Anyway, he explained his problem, a tough one it was, I felt he was right and got it taken care of, quickly and effectively,” he added.
APPLE NAMES JOHN TERNUS NEW CEO AS TIM COOK BECOMES CHAIRMAN
Apple announced that John Ternus, the company’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, will take over from Cook on Sept. 1. The change, which was expected, signals a big shift for one of the most valuable technology companies. Cook, who has led Apple since 2011, will become executive chairman of the board.
Cook, who Trump colloquially calls “Tim Apple,” has enjoyed a friendly relationship with the president. Cook donated $1 million to the president’s inauguration committee and subsequently joined him for the ceremony. He’s also appeared at various White House ceremonies, including one event announcing a $100 billion investment in the United States. During the August 2025 ceremony, Cook presented Trump with an engraved glass and 24-karat gold plaque to celebrate the milestone.
