Trump seems to embrace Kennedy Center rename with supposed slip

“GREAT Nominees for the TRUMP/KENNEDY CENTER, whoops, I mean, KENNEDY CENTER, AWARDS,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform. “They will be announced Wednesday. Tremendous work is being done, and money being spent, on bringing it back to the absolute TOP LEVEL of luxury, glamour, and entertainment. It had fallen on hard times, physically, BUT WILL SOON BE MAKING A MAJOR COMEBACK!!! President DJT.”

Throughout his first term in office, Trump declined to attend the Kennedy Center Honors as many award recipients had criticized him.

Trump’s comment came as House Republicans proposed last month renaming the Kennedy Center’s opera house in the name of first lady Melania Trump. The White House has confirmed Trump will be visiting the Kennedy Center tomorrow morning.

Last month, Rep. Bob Onder (R-MO) introduced legislation that would “designate the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as the ‘Donald J. Trump Center for the Performing Arts.’”

In February, in an unprecedented and controversial move, Trump took over the performing arts center, firing all of the previous board members and naming himself the chairman. His landmark spending bill included $257 million to renovate and restore the Kennedy Center.

The Kennedy Center Honors will take place in December.
