President-elect Donald Trump issued a celebratory statement over Christopher Wray’s announcement to resign as FBI director, deeming it the end of the “Department of Injustice.”

Wray’s announcement was made Wednesday afternoon, about a month before Trump returns to the White House with plans to replace him. The former president has been very critical of Wray for several years now and called his resignation “a great day for America” while questioning “what happened to him.”

“We will now restore the Rule of Law for all Americans,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Under the leadership of Christopher Wray, the FBI illegally raided my home, without cause, worked diligently on illegally impeaching and indicting me, and has done everything else to interfere with the success and future of America. They have used their vast powers to threaten and destroy many innocent Americans, some of which will never be able to recover from what has been done to them.”

In late November, Trump nominated Kash Patel to become the incoming administration’s new FBI director, indicating plans to fire Wray once he took office.

The president-elect was asked about Wray by NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, during which he said he was “very unhappy” with his FBI nominee from 2017. Trump clarified that while he has “a lot of respect” for the FBI, the public’s respect for the agency has gone “way down” over the years.
