President Donald Trump said that work on the East Potomac Golf Links course in Washington, D.C., would begin “immediately,” despite a legal challenge.
Trump’s plan to renovate the golf course is embroiled in a legal battle with Biden-appointed U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes, who recently extended a ban on removing trees until Oct. 26. Trump’s order to begin renovation work “immediately” stands in stark opposition to this ban.
In a Monday morning post on Truth Social, he laid out his rationale before launching an attack against Reyes.
“The United States Department of Interior wants to take a terrible and very unsafe golf course, and make it into a great, safe, and prestigious golf course. They have an absolute right to do so. It’s as simple as that! The judge on the case is a crazed lunatic whose courthouse tapes will reveal, may be insane? The tapes have been blocked from usage by the judge,” Trump said.
“The random golfer bringing the ridiculous lawsuit has ZERO STANDING! The experts at ‘Interior’ are allowed to do this First Class renovation ‘as of right.’ They do not need an approval. Work is scheduled to begin IMMEDIATELY! The finished product will be World Class, and bring income and great prestige back to D.C.” he added.
The Trump administration has been trying to get Reyes, who the Interior Department maintains is a “far-Left activist,” to recuse herself from the case.
In a Friday filing, the Trump administration said the president has “at most … given preliminary thought to” his plans regarding the course, something Reyes asked on Sunday whether the administration still believed.

Elsewhere in the case, Reyes has made her feelings known, saying last Monday that she was “furious” with the administration and that she previously gave it the benefit of the doubt. The associate attorney general wrote on Friday that the Biden-appointed judge’s “histrionics in prior hearings have clearly demonstrated she is no longer impartial.”
The dispute over the golf course is one of Trump’s many legal disputes over beautification projects, though not matching the intensity of those over the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the White House ballroom.
