President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are meeting at the White House.
The meeting is the first since Carney became prime minister. Relations between the United States and Canada have been at a historic low due to Trump’s taunting of the country and imposition of tariffs.
Trump has struck a positive chord with Carney despite his rhetoric, slamming Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre after his election loss.
“It was the one that hated Trump, I think, the least that won,” Trump said. He added that Poilievre “hated me much more than the so-called liberal” Carney.
