When Accusations Go Viral

By George Magazine

It’s shockingly easy today for people to slander someone online and destroy a reputation with nothing more than a post, a clip, or a rumor. But this isn’t new. In Paul’s day, the Chief Priest and elders hired a professional orator named Tertullus to publicly attack him. Here’s part of the accusation:

“For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition…” Acts 24:5

The irony is thick. The accusers were the ones spreading hate. And the charge of sedition was a flat out lie. Paul didn’t panic. He didn’t spiral. He didn’t match their drama.

He simply said: “Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.” Acts 24:13

That’s the line every believer needs in the age of viral gossip. Before you swallow “juicy” online accusations, ask one simple question: Can they prove it? If not, don’t amplify it. Don’t share it. Don’t let someone else’s outrage become your truth.

Shift your focus from gossip to building people up through the Bible. That’s where strength, clarity, and truth actually live.

Very true. Spreading rumors is never a good idea… even if there is proof… it’s better to just not say anything! It’s not necessary to hurt others with rumors… let alone false ones.
