President Donald Trump celebrated his administration’s success in beautifying Washington, D.C., specifically the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool and the fountains at Lafayette Park.
Last month, Trump said he tasked Interior Secretary Doug Burgum with “fixing the absolutely filthy” reflecting pool on the National Mall after the Biden administration failed to do so. Trump now says the work will be done in record time and at a fraction of the initially projected cost.
“Starting the final phase of Renovation that was supposed to cost 301 Million Dollars, and take three years, and was instead done, with the help of Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, and his entire Department, and a much better final result – 2 Million Dollars in one week!” he wrote in a Truth Social post on Friday. That message was followed by another post with the words: “Coming Soon.”
The post featured new images of the reflecting pool with a blue-colored surface that will be located at the bottom of the pool. The renovation seeks to cover up a decades-old, leaky granite foundation that would take years to replace.
“I do many such things for Government and, as President, it is my Honor to do so,” Trump said. “This is just one of them.”
Burgum posted a photo of the restoration project on social media.
The renovation is expected to be completed in the next few weeks. On Thursday, Trump said the new and improved reflecting pool would be ready by July 4 for the nation’s 250th birthday.
In a separate Truth Social post, the president said he was glad to help get the grand Lafayette Park fountains near the White House back up and running.
“The first time Lafayette Park Fountains, opposite the White House, have worked in decades,” he wrote. “My Great Honor to have funded this project (and many others!), and helped.”
The two fountains were seen spewing water again for the first time earlier this week. They were previously turned off while the National Park Service conducted the fountain repairs.
The cascading fountain at Meridian Hill Park, also known as Malcolm X Park, was also seen operating again during testing this week. It’s been closed since 2019.
FEDERAL AGENCY APPROVES TRUMP’S PLAN FOR TRIUMPHAL ARCH AHEAD OF AMERICA 250
The ongoing rehabilitation efforts are part of Trump’s March 2025 executive order to beautify the federal district ahead of the nation’s semiquincentennial this year.
Beyond restoring national monuments and parks, the president is prioritizing the construction of a new 250-foot triumphal arch that would sit opposite the Lincoln Memorial near Arlington National Cemetery. Unlike the reflecting pool, the neoclassical monument will not be ready by July 4.
