Stunning Reversal: Apple Selects Intel for Domestic Chip Fabrication in Landmark Deal

The stunning new chapter in the relationship between Apple Inc. and Intel has solidified in 2026, marking a complete reversal from their 2020 divorce. In a landmark strategic pivot that reshapes the global semiconductor landscape, Apple has formally selected Intel to manufacture its proprietary custom-designed Apple Silicon within the United States.

The partnership, lauded by President Trump as a victory for his administration’s initiative to secure the “American Pie” of critical technology infrastructure, will see Intel’s U.S. foundries fabricate key components of Apple’s future chip roadmap.

This move provides critical validation for Intel Foundry Services, particularly its cutting-edge 18A-P process node, which Intel recently confirmed has entered risk production. For Intel, which is 10% owned by the U.S. government following a strategic investment in 2025, landing the world’s most valuable company as a foundry customer secures long-term credibility and steady volume.

For Apple, the partnership addresses a critical vulnerability: its near-total reliance on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

The Taiwanese giant has been stretched thin by overwhelming demand for leading-edge nodes from AI titans like NVIDIA and AMD. By establishing a domestic alternative, Apple secures its supply chain against growing geopolitical instability. Analysts suggest the Intel agreement initially covers the fabrication of M-series processors for non-Pro iPads and MacBook Airs, allowing Apple to reserve TSMC’s pioneering 2-nanometer capacity for its premium iPhone designs. Full-scale production at Intel for Apple is anticipated by mid-2027.
