The Last Trump: The Seventh Trump of Rev. 11:15 is NOT called “The Last” Trump

Understanding the “Last Trump”: Clearing Up the Confusion

There’s a lot of confusion today…honest mistakes, wild speculation, and even outright false teaching…about whether the “last trump” in 1 Corinthians 15:51‑52 is the same as the seventh trumpet in Revelation 11:15. Many pastors and teachers blend these two together, but Scripture shows they are not the same event.

So let’s walk through this clearly and carefully.

The Verses in Question

1 Corinthians 15:51‑52 “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

Revelation 11:15 “And the seventh angel sounded his trumpet; and there were loud voices in heaven”

These two trumpets are not the same, and here’s why.

  1. The Seals, Trumpets, and Vials in Revelation Are Cycles

In Revelation, each set of seven (Seals, Trumpets, Vials) is separated from the first six by clear signs. These signs show that each seventh item is a summary, not a continuation. Each cycle covers the same time period, but from a different angle…like different camera shots of the same event. They give extra details the others don’t.

  1. The Seventh Trumpet in Revelation Is Only “Last” in Its Own Series

Revelation 11:15 calls it the seventh trumpet because it’s the last of that specific group of seven. But that doesn’t mean it’s the last trumpet ever sounded in God’s plan. There can be other trumpets before it or after it that are “last” in a different sense.

  1. The “Last Trump” in 1 Corinthians 15 Is About the Body of Christ

In 1 Corinthians 15:51‑52, Paul says:

  • the last trump”
  • a trumpet shall sound”
  • the dead in Christ will rise
  • the living will be changed instantly

This is the same trumpet mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 4:16, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God.”

This trumpet is the last trumpet for the Body of Christ…the Church. It ends our time on earth and gathers us to Christ.

But it is not the last trumpet in all of prophecy.

  1. The Trumpet of 1 Corinthians Sounds Long Before Revelation’s Judgments

The trumpet that calls the Church home happens before the judgments of Revelation begin. Its purpose is to:

  • raise believers who have died
  • transform believers who are alive
  • unite the Body with its Head, Jesus Christ

This is a rescue, not a judgment.

  1. Another Great Trumpet Sounds After the Tribulation

Jesus mentions another trumpet in Matthew 24:31, “And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet…”

This happens after the Great Tribulation and after the seventh trumpet of Revelation 11:15. The event connected to this trumpet is recorded in Revelation 19…the Lord’s visible return. So again, the seventh trumpet in Revelation is not the “last” trumpet in an absolute sense.

  1. The Seventh Trumpet of Revelation Is Not Called “Last”

Revelation never calls the seventh trumpet “the last.” It’s simply the last of its own series. But the trumpet in 1 Corinthians 15 is called “the last” because it ends the Church’s earthly journey.

  1. The Trumpets of Revelation Belong to a Different Dispensation

The seven trumpets in Revelation are part of God’s judgment on the earth. They have nothing to do with the Church’s heavenly calling (Philippians 3:14). Mixing the two creates confusion and distorts God’s timeline.

  1. The Seventh Trumpet in Revelation Announces the King’s Coronation

When the seventh trumpet sounds in Revelation 11:15:

  • it happens in heaven, not in the air
  • it causes major activity in heaven
  • it announces that the time has come for Christ to take His rightful throne

It’s like the heavenly announcement of a coronation ceremony.

This is the moment when the prayer Jesus taught…
“Thy kingdom come”
is finally about to be fulfilled.

Therefore…

  • The “last trump” in 1 Corinthians 15 is for the Body of Christ.
  • The seventh trumpet in Revelation 11 is part of God’s judgment on the world.
  • They are not the same trumpet, not the same event, and not the same purpose.
  • One is a call upward (the Church).
  • The other is a declaration of judgment and kingdom (Israel and the nations).

With all of that said…

In Ephesians 1:13 the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul declares that men are saved and sealed by hearing and BELIEVING the Word of Truth, the Gospel of your Salvation. Therefore, here, now, is declared unto you the Word of Truth, the Gospel of your Salvation: “that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. BELIEVE today. The time is short.

Excellent presentation of the upcoming events! Dave has excellent hermeneutics, which is foundational for the chronology of prophecy. Yes, believe today because this age of GRACE is nearing its END! The members of the Body of Jesus Christ over the last two thousand years are anticipating with excitement the receiving of their resurrected, glorified bodies as they see the constant reminder of what they will receive by looking at the Head of the body, who shines in Glory!
