President Donald Trump celebrated the “very good news” on Wednesday that eight Iranian women, who were to be executed, have been spared by Tehran leaders.

“I have just been informed that the eight women protestors who were going to be executed tonight in Iran will no longer be killed,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Four will be released immediately, and four will be sentenced to one month in prison,” Trump added. “I very much appreciate that Iran, and its leaders, respected my request, as President of the United States, and terminated the planned execution.”

The news comes one day after Trump asked the Iranian government to release the eight women as a two-week ceasefire in the Iran war was set to expire, and as a U.S. delegation was also set to travel to Islamabad, Pakistan, for a second round of negotiations.

It is unclear when the current ceasefire will end. Trump has suggested that a second round of peace talks could begin this week, although the White House did not clarify the exact time the talks will happen when asked for comment by the Washington Examiner.
